Jazza Dickens vs Anthony Cacace: Full Fight Card Preview

Jazza Dickens and Anthony Cacace are set to square off for Dickens’ WBA Super-Featherweight world title in a titanic domestic clash on Match 14.

Taking place at the 3Arena in Dublin, we’re primed for a raucous atmosphere. Dickens spent a period of his life living in Dublin, whilst Cacace is a native of Belfast in Northern Ireland.

Dickens has been a perennial bridesmaid in boxing – it was a brilliant moment when he knocked out Albert Batyrgaziev for the WBA interim Super-Featherweight title. Since then, Dickens has been elevated to full champion status.

Meanwhile, Cacace has been one the UK’s best fighters over the last three years. He made his mark when he emphatically stopped Joe Cordina, then went on to record impressive wins over Josh Warrington and Leigh Wood.

The majority of audiences believe that Anthony Cacace will win this one if it goes to a decision, while Dickens’ only realistic method of victory is by knockout. We’re not so sure – Dickens is a better boxer than people give him credit for, while Cacace’s hands are much heavier than his knockout ratio may suggest.

Dickens will need to do whatever he can to stay on Cacace’s inside. He is prone to being caught be straight shots – as the much taller, rangier man in the contest, ‘The Apache’ can pick Dickens off at will if the 34 year old fails to press the issue.

Cacace is the older man at 37, but he has yet to show any signs of slowing down – if anything, he’s in his prime. With just one loss on his record, coming at the hands of Martin J Ward back in 2017, Cacace has to enter this one as the favourite.

A tireless fighter, Dickens will certainly give Cacace plenty to think about, but we’re expecting ‘The Apache’ to take home a competitive decision win in this one.

Who is on the undercard?

The chief support for Jazza Dickens vs Anthony Cacace will be Pierce O’Leary vs Maxi Hughes. Originally, O’Leary was scheduled to face Mark Chamberlain, but Chamberlain was forced to pull out after he suffered an infection.

As such, the ever-reliable Maxi Hughes stepped in on two weeks’ notice to fill the gap left behind. In many ways, this is a tougher fight for O’Leary – Hughes is a completely different style of fighter to what Chamberlain brings to the table.

While Chamberlain is best known for his brutal punching power, Hughes is a highly-skilled operator with excellent footwork and crafty defence. Don’t be too surprised if the Doncastrian causes an upset in this one – he is a criminally underrated fighter with some brilliant wins on his resume.

Elsewhere, Jono Carroll is set to make his return to the World Title scene for the first time since 2019 – he’ll take on Colm Murphy in a fight for the vacant IBO Super-Featherweight title.

Carroll is actually the underdog with the bookmakers – considering his superior pedigree, this is a bit of a surprise to us. It’s a massive step up for Murphy, who remains an unknown quantity on the world stage.
